Titleholders must submit notices, reports, data and samples as set out in the regulations, guideline and fact sheets.

This relates to well and survey activities under the:

  • Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 (OPGGS Act)
  • Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage (Resource Management and Administration) Regulations 2025 (RMA Regulations).

How to submit well and survey data

Format and medium for data

You must submit data relating to well, survey and reprocessing activities as set out in the Specified format and medium for data instrument.

Transmittals

You should send your reports, data and samples to us along with a transmittal document. Transmittals ensure the flow of data between titleholders and NOPTA is accurately tracked and recorded.

When to submit

You must submit notices, reports, data and samples within specified periods, unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Titles Administrator. When you need to submit will depend on the type of activity undertaken.

Titleholders submit physical samples to the National Offshore Petroleum Data and Core Repository (NOPDCR).

Annual title assessment reports

You must submit annual title assessment reports (ATARs) within 30 days of the anniversary date of the title, unless otherwise agreed in writing by the Titles Administrator.

Monthly production reports

You must submit monthly production reports within 15 days of the end of the calendar month to which the report relates.

GHG injection and accounting reports

The submission timeframes for GHG injection and accounting reports vary depending on the specific report type. You must submit these reports to the Titles Administrator.

Discovery reports

Petroleum titleholders must submit the following to the Titles Administrator:

  • a discovery notification within 30 days of the completion of the discovery well
  • a discovery assessment report within 90 days of the completion of the discovery well.

GHG titleholders must submit the following to the responsible Commonwealth Minister.

  • a discovery notification within 30 days of the completion of the discovery well
  • a discovery assessment report within 60 days of the completion of the discovery well.
