Greenhouse gas

The Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 establishes a title system for the assessment, injection and storage of greenhouse gas (GHG) substances in geologic formations in Commonwealth offshore areas.

The Australian Government has held two acreage release rounds for GHG storage (2009 and 2014).

There are currently four active GHG assessment permits in Commonwealth offshore waters. All four permits are located in offshore Victorian waters, and all were awarded to the ‘Crown in right of Victoria’ as the sole titleholder.

For further information on the GHG acreage release process or information on application types other than GHG assessment permits, please contact NOPTA.
