2019 NOPTA stakeholder survey response

16 August 2019

Thank you for participating in the 2019 stakeholder survey

NOPTA would like to thank all stakeholders who participated in the 2019 NOPTA stakeholder survey. This is our fourth comprehensive survey of stakeholder views and compared to previous years, 2019 saw the largest number of respondents. Your valuable feedback has provided us with important insights relating to our performance in the areas of timeliness, quality of communication, accessibility and responsiveness.

The outcomes of the survey represent an excellent result for us and is reflective of the broader administrative regime in which we operate. Some of these key highlights were:

  • 98 per cent of respondents considered that we make a valuable contribution to the process of managing Australia’s resources, with almost two-thirds of respondents considering this was true to a great extent
  • 93 per cent of respondents indicated a high level of satisfaction with the technical expertise of NOPTA staff
  • 98 per cent of respondents considered the time and effort they spend on compliance related tasks as reasonable given the regulatory risk we manage.

In relation to NEATS, we are pleased to note there continues to be a high level of satisfaction with the information accessed from this platform. Consistent with your feedback, we will now focus on delivering further enhancements to the industry portal.

We also appreciate your feedback regarding those areas where you consider performance could be improved by NOPTA and the Joint Authority. These include matters relevant to transparency, predictability and timeliness of decisions, and issues relating to effort for certain processes.

At NOPTA we are committed to continuous improvement and currently have a range of initiatives underway to address those areas identified for further action. This includes hosting an upcoming public information session to provide clarity on the requirements for approval and registration of petroleum title dealings; and conducting a comprehensive review and update of our internal processes and procedures to enhance consistency and transparency.

We will also continue to explore opportunities with the Joint Authority to streamline processes and increase transparency.

Further information on our approach and activities to date can be found on our website, including in our annual reports. If you have any further feedback on matters relevant to our performance, you can email us at any time via feedback@nopta.gov.au.
