The Australian Government reviewed and consulted on these Guidelines in 2025 to align with its Future Gas Strategy.
The guidelines outline the policy settings for offshore petroleum work–bid exploration permits, retention leases and declarations of location. They provide information on the grant, renewal and administration of these titles and locations.
The revised guidelines are effective from 9 December 2025.
