Launching the 2020 Offshore Petroleum Acreage Release

Bidding opens today on new offshore acreage for oil and gas exploration offshore Western Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria and the Territory of Ashmore and Cartier Islands.

A total of 42 areas are available for work program bidding, comprising:

  • 28 areas off Western Australia
  • 5 areas off Northern Territory
  • 3 areas off Victoria
  • 6 areas off the Territory of Ashmore and Cartier Islands

Bidding will be open for 9 months and close on Tuesday 1 June 2021.

Key dates – 2021 Acreage Release

A reminder that the cut-off for nominations to be considered as part of the Australian Government's 2021 Offshore Petroleum Exploration Acreage Release is Tuesday 27 October 2020.

This closing date will allow for the 2021 acreage release to be announced at the 2021 APPEA Conference and Exhibition in Perth on 14-17 June 2021

Nominations can be made any time here. Any nominations submitted after 27 October 2020 will be considered for inclusion in the 2022 acreage release.
