Implementation of GDA2020

NOPTA has begun preparing for the introduction of the new GDA2020 spatial datum, which comes into effect on 1 January 2017.

NOPTA’s priority is to manage the introduction of GDA2020 smoothly and maintain certainty for petroleum titleholders. As part of this process, NOPTA will review the effect of GDA2020 on the spatial datasets it administers. It is noted that for the purposes of the Offshore Petroleum and Greenhouse Gas Storage Act 2006 petroleum titles will still be available in GDA94 and upon request, AGD66.

For any data submitted to NOPTA, it would be appreciated if it could be clearly marked with the applicable datum.

ICSM is leading the implementation of the new datum through its GDA Modernisation Implementation Working Group, consisting of representatives from both State and Federal Government Agencies including Geoscience Australia.
